About the Artist
Margo White has created art since childhood and has been involved with book and magazine illustration, toy design as well as film animation (The Children’s Television Workshop’s Sesame Street, Korty Film’s Twice Upon a Time and IBM training films). Her participation with the 2011 Sketchbook Project and her digitally archived “ Jackets, Blankets and Sheets,” is housed at the Brooklyn Art Library but also available online for viewing. Margo’s other worldly etchings, watercolors and collages have been exhibited and sold extensively throughout Northern California, Los Angeles and New York. She cherishes childhood’s credo that “ Life is filled with whimsy and magic and above all, anything is possible.” The following Paul Klee quote is reflected in the charm of her work, “The role of the artist is not to present what is already visible, but to make visible what is invisible.” Margo holds a BFA degree in painting from California College of the Arts in Oakland. She lives in the East Bay.
Artist Statement
Creating art for me is always a quirky, magical experience that takes me on a curious journey, wending its way through uncharted territories to unimagined places. For the most part I work with no preconceived ideas as this keeps my thinking fresh, spontaneous and open.
Although the creative spark ignites when I see a fanciful shape, an intriguing pattern or an alluring combination of colors, the voyage begins in earnest with the mark of the pen, the sweep of the brush or the cut of the scissors. Gradually stories unfold themselves. Each character demands that the tale be told. I listen, record and help set the tone. I am the facilitator, enjoying all. It’s a perfect way to travel.
Thank you for coming to visit my work.
